- Dominated Athens 461- 429
- called age of the Pericles
- Had three Goals. 1. To strengthen Athen's democracy
2. Hold and strengthen the empire
3. Glorify Athens
Direct Democracy- A form of government in which citizens rule directly and not through representitives
Athenian Empire- the making of the strongest navy STRONG NAVEY= TO A STRONG EMPIRE
Glorifying Athens- Pericles used money from the delian League Athenian Military might allowed Percales to treat other members of the delian league as part of the empire.
Glorious Art and Architecture
Pericles goal was to have the greatest Greek artist and architectures to create magnificent sculptures and buildings to glorify Athens. A masterpiece called the parthenon was a unique style of the Greeks. The Greeks architectures constructed a twenty-three thousand square foot temple/ building in then traditional style temple. That has been used by Greeks for over two- hundred years.
Drama and History
Greeks invented dramma as an form of art. Theaters were being built and plays were being performed. There plays showed special traits such has leader ship, justice, and the duties owned by God. Every play that was produced had a special message.
The Greeks wrote two kinds of plays
Tragedies and Comedies
Tragedy plays was a serious drama about common themes such as love, hate, war, or betrayal, these dramas feature a main character or a hero.
comedies- Contained scenes filled with slap stick situations and crude humor.
